New River Valley Oral Surgery was recommended to me and I read every review as well. I've had some awful experiences with dentists in the last few years, particularly with an extraction, so I was anxious about having to have an old root canal molar extracted. The reviews were great and now I can add to that. The extraction went as well as I could have hoped for and the staff and dentist were wonderful to me. I had some concerns a week later, and they got me in promptly and checked on everything for me. I can't say enough good about this practice and have already recommended them to several friends.

I received excellent care from Dr. Van Gilder and assistant, Wanda. They explained the procedure and after care very thoroughly. While the anesthetic shots are always painful, Dr. Van Gilder skillfully minimized my pain. This extraction was less painful than many root canals that I have had.

I have bad dental anxiety from past experiences as a kid. I’ve also been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, which makes any sort of procedure or doctor visit and anxiety nightmare. The moment I stepped foot in the office for my consultation I was met with kindness and compassion. Everyone was so kind and you can tell they care about their jobs and every client. The day of my extraction the staff and doctor made sure I knew what they were going to do so that I had no surprises. I am absolutely thankful for everyone there making a stressful experience feel like I had nothing to worry about. The staff and doctors are not only kind and supportive, but very knowledgeable about what they do. They are also amazing at knowing how to make you laugh and keep your mind off the scary parts that come with wisdom teeth extraction. I would 100% recommend anyone come to this office for their surgical teeth needs.

I was so pleasantly surprised after fearing the worst for what I needed to have done. Staff made me feel more calm and were so professional and caring.
